Summer in the Valley text in alternating thick and thin yellow letters

Overview

Summer in the Valley offers children ages 4–17 a unique blend of hands-on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) experiences and mindfulness practices, including yoga. Grounded in our holistic educational philosophy, students explore exciting weekly themes that cultivate curiosity, creativity, and personal growth. Set on our scenic 31-acre wooded campus, children safely discover, learn, and grow through meaningful connections with nature and one another.

Engaging the Five Senses

At Summer in the Valley, "hands-on" learning means children actively engage all their senses as they explore the world around them. Research consistently demonstrates that participant-based learning significantly enhances information retention, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Our immersive approach combines sensory-rich STEAM activities with mindfulness practices to create powerful learning experiences that resonate deeply and inspire lifelong curiosity.

STEAM Education

Our thoughtfully designed STEAM activities are scientifically sound, age-appropriate, and intentionally challenging. Children are encouraged to ask meaningful questions such as "why," "how," and "what," and to find answers through guided observation, experimentation, and interactive problem-solving. By engaging in these dynamic, hands-on experiences, students ignite their natural curiosity, embrace critical thinking, and internalize the scientific process—because that’s how great minds grow!

Complementing these STEAM adventures, students also engage in yoga and mindfulness practices to harmonize the body, mind, and energy. These powerful techniques promote stress reduction, build resilience, and enhance focus, helping children thrive socially, emotionally, and academically.

What’s on the Inside?

June 22 – June 26 | $325

Discover what makes everyday objects tick as we explore the hidden parts inside the things we use. Students will investigate how components fit together, how systems work as a team, and why certain designs are built the way they are, from buttons and gears to circuit boards, motors, and speakers. Using a variety of tools, makers will safely disassemble and examine computers, electronic media devices, toys, and household items, documenting their findings. We’ll connect our discoveries to real-world manufacturing, including how products are designed, assembled, tested, and improved. We’ll practice curiosity, careful observation, and responsible use of tools. It’s hands-on, eye-opening, and guaranteed to spark big questions (and even bigger ideas).

Glue, Paper, Scissors

June 29 – July 2 | $260 (4-Day Week)

Have fun discovering the art and science of papercrafting! Students will sketch ideas, measure carefully, and transform simple sheets of paper into impressive creations through cutting, folding, scoring, and gluing. Along the way, we’ll explore how shapes, symmetry, and structure work together to turn paper into something that feels almost architectural. Makers will build a variety of projects, including paper models, figures, and playful paper food art, learning how patterns and templates become 3D forms. As skills grow, students will remix designs, add personal flair, and create original paper art pieces from start to finish.

Makers’ Bootcamp

July 6 – July 10 | $325

Everyone is a maker! In this project-filled experience, students learn new skills and sharpen old ones as they design and build a variety of exciting creations, from quick prototypes to longer, more polished builds. We’ll sketch ideas, plan materials, and bring concepts to life through hands-on making: cutting, taping, gluing, assembling, testing, and improving. Along the way, makers practice focus, teamwork, and time management. Students learn to share tools, divide tasks, communicate clearly, and support one another through challenges, building confidence through iteration: try it, notice what works (and what doesn’t), adjust, and try again. Come experience the fun, the joy, and the “I made that!” moment, again and again.

Land, Sea, and Air, Oh My!

July 27 – July 31 | $325

From four wheels to no wheels at all, students explore the many ways people (and inventions) move from point A to point B. We’ll learn about transportation across land, sea, and air while designing and building a variety of miniature vehicles, including rolling creations, floating crafts, and flying experiments. Test, tweak, and try again. As we build, students investigate the science that makes motion possible: balance and stability, flotation and buoyancy, propulsion and friction, lift and drag, and the forces that help vehicles accelerate, decelerate, and steer. Through hands-on challenges and collaborative builds, makers practice problem-solving, creativity, and teamwork.
